DESCRIPTION: Portrait Artist of the Year for Sky Arts sees talented amateur artists from across the UK competing in challenge heats. Presented by Joan Bakewell and Frank Skinner, the winner receives a £10,000 commission and the opportunity to paint a famous personality.
Aerial Picture Company is now in its fourth year providing drone aerial filming for the sister series, Landscape Artist of the Year, so we were delighted to undertake aerials for Portrait Artist of the Year.
The winner of Portrait 2017 would get to paint Liverpool-born actress Kim Cattrall, best known for her role as Samantha Jones in the hit global series, Sex and the City.
Our task for Portrait Artist of the Year was to capture city and seascapes along the Mersey with our aerial filming drones, showcasing Liverpool’s iconic historic buildings architecture. We also spent the afternoon capturing aerials at the famous Palm House in the picturesque Sefton Park. Both inside and out including shots of Kim Cattrall.
After undertaking drone aerial filming in Liverpool, Merseyside and on the Wirral many times before, including shooting the aerials for BBC1’s Sea Cities, Songs of Praise, BBC Music Day and Canals: Making of a Nation, we were keen to return. We’re big fans of this famous city and always relish the opportunity to take the drones up and discover another amazing Liverpool perspective to photograph.
As always, the Liverpool Film Office were hugely helpful and are a great resource for filmmakers to utilise when aerial filming in or around Liverpool. Strong local knowledge, great contacts and reliable advice is a must to ensure a busy shoot runs smoothly.
